Driver Rehabilitation Program - G.F. Strong Rehabilitation Centre

Provides driving evaluations and rehabilitation to individuals with physical, cognitive or visual impairment.
Driver rehabilitation provides evaluations and rehabilitation to individuals with physical, cognitive or visual impairment. The Comprehensive (Functional) Driving Evaluation consists of an in-clinic and on-road assessment with an occupational therapist. On-road rehabilitation may be recommended to provide training in use of adaptive driving equipment, cognitive strategies, visual strategies or anxiety management strategies. The program has a car with adaptive driving equipment or a wheelchair accessible minivan for those clients with physical impairments who need adaptations. On completion of the program, the occupational therapist will notify the referring healthcare provider and RoadSafetyBC of the results.

GF Strong Driver Rehabilitation is an approved service provider with RoadSafetyBC, BC’s driver licensing authority. The program is staffed by an occupational therapist with who has completed the McGill University Graduate Certificate in Assessing Driving Capability.

The program is fee-for-service and is not covered under the Medical Services Plan (MSP).

Client diagnoses may include, but are not limited to: stroke (CVA), spinal cord injury (SCI), acquired brain injury (ABI), amputation, multiple sclerosis (MS), myscular dystrophy (MD), spina bifida, cerebral palsy, visual field loss. Clients must be 16 years of age or older and have a valid driver’s license.

Referral Details: Physicians should fill out the referral form and send it by fax. Please attach appropriate consults and list of current medications to the referral form.
