Community Programs and Services for Tla'amin Health Region

Provides a full range of primary, secondary, and tertiary health services for community members living within the Tla’amin Nation and to First Nations people in the remote coastal communities in the Powell River area.
Delivers primary health care services and other diverse health programs and services to Tla'amin Nation and Indigenous residents across the region (Saltery Bay to Lund and Texada Island).

Health Providers include:

  • Chronic Disease Nurse
  • Social Worker
  • Mental Health Worker
  • Periodic visits from local Dentists, Optometrists, Occupational Therapists and Chiropractors

Child, Youth and Family Services: Offers a range of services and support for children and families, aimed at fostering healthy development in youth and healthy decision making as they continue to grow. They host a variety of workshops throughout the year and offer programs designed to foster positive social relationships while providing a safe space for youths to express themselves.

Traditional Wellness: Team consists of support workers able to help people cope with any challenges they may be experiencing,, including addictions, violence & domestic abuse, depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, relationships, at-risk youth and most other life situations. The team employs a combination of traditional and contemporary counselling, infusing cultural values in a holistic and culturally sensitive manner.

Home and Community Care: The Philosophy of this program is centred around the belief that individuals are responsible and wish to care for themselves and their families for as long as they are able to do so. Endeavours to enhance the dignity and independence of elderly adults and assist them in remaining in their community with family and friends. Includes homemaking, meal prep, laundry, medication checks, personal care, nursing care, post-operative care, and an elder’s program!

Health Benefits: This team provides support and assistance to Community members with medical transportation arrangements, including types of travel, escorts, flights, taxis and accommodations.

Health Promotion: The Focus of this program is centred around health promotion and education. Leads COVID-19 vaccination clinics for the whole of community. Offers a range of programs to foster healthy habits including pre-natal gatherings, cookings with kids, community kitchen, and exercise programs, among others!

Early Childhood Development: Resource Centre offers daycare programs for children 1-12 years old, including an infant/toddler program, a 3-5 year old program, a preschool program, and an after-school program. Also offers an Aboriginal Supported Child Development program for children with special or high needs.
